#1 Grass Fed Whey Protein
If you are active in CrossFit then you will be training hard and therefore need to be consuming enough protein in your diet to help repair recovering muscles. Sometimes when you are on the run it’s hard to grab a grass-fed steak or a food source that is high in protein. This is where sports supplements and a whey protein powder comes in.
Grass fed whey protein is one of the most natural ways to significantly increase the amount of protein present in your diet. Originating from the freshest milk from the fittest cows, grass fed whey protein differs from other nutritional health supplements given how it is generated in such a particular and specific way. Grass fed whey protein comes from grass fed cows, and any type of animal who eats healthily in the way that they are supposed to will produce the best products suitable for human consumption. Naturally occurring brain chain amino acids are highly present in this particular type of sports supplement, and offer an enormous range of benefits that many other protein powders lose during the production process.
At ICON Nutrition we only use the finest whey sourced from hormone free grass fed cows.Shop Now
#2 Pre Workout
A pre-workout supplement that contains beta alanine is going to maintain intra-cellular Pa, meaning the acid that associates with lactic acid needs to be buffered or at some point you are going to feel that burn that forces you to stop. Beta alanine buffers this acid allowing you to push harder and forcing more reps out during training. Our liver naturally makes beta alanine, you can get some beta alanine from food but to get enough to notice a performance enhancing effect when training for CrossFit you will need to supplement with a pre workout that contains beta alanine such as Ignite Pre Workout.
The great thing about Ignite Pre-Workout is that it contains both high dosages of beta-alanine and creatine monohydrate killing two birds with one stone, and saving you money on having to buy more sports supplements.
For a CrossFit type workout knowing you are going to be doing pretty high intensity exercise or demanding a lot of power output from your body taking a pre-workout product containing caffeine can help give you a feeling of being more awake, focused and energized. With any pre-workout containing stimulants we recommended giving your body a break every 6 weeks for a period of 2 weeks as you don’t want to build up a tolerance to them so they become ineffective.Shop Now
#3 Recovery Powder
Crossfit HQ’s view on carbs is to eat enough to maintain performance, but not enough to cause fat gain, with the sweet spot being about 40% of calories coming from good quality carbs. But as we know, there is never a one size fits all approach to nutrition, so a little bit of detective work is required to find your own individual sweet spot which improves both performance and body composition.
2:1 ratio of carbs to protein, this is the tried and tested ratio used for helping restore glycogen and aid in the recovery of muscle damage. Whey protein also helps increase glycogen storage within muscles compared to carbs alone. If you required additional carbs having a banana would in effect help make it a 3:1 ratio of carbs to protein (10)
Sweet potato powder, this is a unique carb with regard to post training recovery shakes but it has its benefits compared to other more traditional carbs used in other recovery products. Sweet potato contains additional nutrition that dextrose or maltodextrin based recovery products don’t, such as pantothenic acid (vitamin B-5), pyridoxine (vitamin B-6), and thiamin (vitamin B-1), niacin, and riboflavin. These vitamins are essential in the sense that the human body requires them from external sources to replenish.
1:1 ratio of Whey isolate and casein. Traditionally post training shake has been made up of solely whey protein, which we know is quickly digested and releases amino acids into the blood stream at a faster rate than other proteins in order to help start the anabolic processes of recovery post training, this is of course very important.Shop Now
High Strength Omega 3
When looking for the best omega 3 supplement on the market you need to look at a variety of factors such as: the purity of the oil, sustainability i.e. where is it sourced from, the freshness, potency/strength, levels of nutrients, and obviously the cost involved.
Not all omega 3 fish oils that we see are created equal and many of the general public just see the word ‘fish oil’ on a tub down a supermarket isle and buy it thinking it’s exactly what they need. Wrong.
Omega 3 potency varies from brand to brand. You need to be looking at the EPA and DHA levels, not the fact that it says ‘1,000mg capsules’ on the front.
Another thing when looking for the best omega 3 supplement is sustainability. You should try steer clear from those that don’t mention where the fish oil is sourced from and whether it comes from sustainable sources. Many brands get their oils from fish that are endangered. With ICON Nutrition’s Omega 3 supplement you know exactly where the oils are coming from. We source all our oils from sustainable wild caught anchovies in Peru, so you know there is no endangerment to the fish.Shop Now
